Whale Watching at Jetwing Lighthouse or Kurulubedda, Galle

Is Southern Sri Lanka the world's top spot for seeing
blue and sperm whales?

South of Dondra in Sri Lanka, may turn out to be the best location in the world for seeing blue whales. Furthermore, it may also be the best for seeing both blue whales and sperm whales together. This view is based on recent observations and a theory of a migration of whales by marine biologist Charles Anderson. During the season, a Blue Whale is easier to see to the south of Dondra, than a leopard in Yala.

Jetwing Lighthouse
In 2005, Lighthouse Hotel & Spa was awarded the PATA Gold Award 2005 in the field of Education and Training – Educational Programme for their project A Taxi Service Through The Community. This project involved the training and grooming of 45 youth in the immediate surrounding to provide a professional taxi service to hotel guess. To achieve this, a series of training classes, field visits to places of interest etc. were carried out over a year. This ensured that these youth were guided from being hangers on of the community, to useful economic contributors.
